Caring for Your Cat Isn’t As Difficult As You Think
Caring for a pet is an experience like no other. The time you spend with your little furry friend will always have a special place in your heart. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you do, or how much money you have in your bank account. In the eyes of your beloved animal, you are superb. You are simply the best in the world. And there’s nothing society can say to make them lose the faith and love they have for you.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
However, it is important to note that caring for a pet comes with great responsibility – especially if you’re taking care of a cat. There are many things involved in adopting a pet which primarily includes attending to their needs and giving them attention. To you, your little feline friends may just be a part of your life but to them, you are their life. You are literally the whole world to them. So before you start throwing a fit because they scratched or broke your favorite couch at home, you should remember that they only do it because they’re lonely – and bored. Take note that a cat’s lifespan is roughly just 15 years (see reference). This is only a fourth of our lifespan, generally-speaking. To them, an hour that you’re gone feels like forever already. If you’re gone for a day, it would seem like a week. This is why some pets find “other things” to occupy their attention. They horse around the house looking for something to do or meddle with. They scratch, bite, chew, destroy, trample, and play with whatever they find interesting up until you come back home. If you really think about it, their destructive behaviour is often caused by extreme loneliness.
Now, can you really blame them for missing you so much?
Well, that’s a tough nut to crack. Sometimes, we feel guilty for leaving them alone for so long. Other times, we just feel annoyed and frustrated with the things they do. But hey, you know cats. If you have an attitude, they have one too. And they will blatantly show you how displeased they are by turning their backs on you while you’re still raving on about the things they did during your absence. If you’ve got a pretty stubborn cat, you might even get the cold shoulder too. They’d be gone for hours, sulking somewhere (or plotting their revenge, lol), and they’d come back whenever thinking that they own the place. Let’s not even talk about the kind of attitude they display when they’re hungry. They’ll literally scratch you in the face if they could. Then again, everyone’s like that when they’re hungry. I bet you are also like that when you’re hungry so don’t expect your prima donna pet to act any differently. That’s why you have that pet in the first place; your personalities jive together.
How To Be A Responsible Pet Owner
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: We are our pet’s lives. Their world revolves around us and they only want to be with us for as much as they can. Therefore, it is our responsibility to care for them as much as we can as well. And we can start by following these few simple rules:
- Always Keep Them Fed
A pet with a full tummy is a pet that’s really happy. Just like how we are always in the mood for good food, your cat will appreciate it if you also feed him or her delicious meals on time. It’s kind of what they look forward to each and every day. Also, it is important to note that pet’s often expect you to feed them at specific times of the day. So, if you feed your pet thrice daily, you should see to it that they get their food three times a day (same time, if possible) without fail. Pets have this body clock for food and when they miss out on a meal they can get very hungry.
Speaking of feeding pets, I would just like to call out people who leave pets unattended when they go on vacation. Even if it’s just an overnight trip, you should make sure that you leave your little one with enough food to eat (if you don’t plan on bringing him/her along with you). If you don’t know anyone who can “cat-sit” for the days you’ll be gone, buy an automatic cat feeder. This way, you can be sure that your cat enjoys his or her regular meals even while you’re away.
- Maintain Hygiene
Many pets suffer skin diseases because of improper hygiene. As owners, we are responsible for regulating their body cleaning regimen. They can’t bathe themselves, you know. Also, observing their hygiene will not only benefit your pet but you, the owner, as well. You can catch allergies and bacteria-related illnesses if you don’t properly maintain your cat’s cleanliness. A bath or two per week sure wouldn’t hurt!
- Give Them Lots Of Love
Your cat loves you unconditionally although it just doesn’t seem like it sometimes. I ask that you shower them with lots and lots of affection too! Pamper your cat with these amazing cat toys for cats. They really deserve it. Make time to play with them. Caress your little purry’s fur while watching TV. Take them on a walk. These little things matter to your pet. They practically live for it.
