Useful, general tips on how to train your dog
Sponsored Content
EBknows loves dogs and knows you love yours, too. That said, here are some tips on how to train your dog. Hopefully, when you get your new best friend (or want to brush up on training with current canines), these will come in handy! Read the tips in a post composed for Pets in Omaha below.
Dogs are caring and loving, and are always there for you when you need them. People keep pet dogs for various reasons. Some do it because they need a companion and some do it simply because they love animals, but whatever the reason for you to keep a dog, you must make sure to get it trained so that you can have a good time with your pet.
Let’s have a look at some tips on how you can quickly train your dog.
Appreciate your dog for behaving
A common mistake new dog owners often make is shouting and screaming at their dog when it is slow to learn or does not behave as expected. This is a bad decision as it can demotivate your animal and cause them to learn slowly.
Make sure to shower your dog with love when it shoes good behavior. This can make your dog behave well in the future to get more love.
A good way to show love to your pet is to get him treats or just pat him and give him a hug. Dog loves affection and attention and can work for it.
Pay attention to what you feed your dog
It is extremely important to pay attention to what goes inside your dog as it can have a significant impact on your dog’s mood.
Remember a happy dog is a good dog. So make sure that your dog likes the treats you’re feeding it, and it’s diet contains a good amount of healthy proteins.
Moreover, keeping your dog hydrated is just as important as its diets so make sure it drinks plenty of water. The amount of water a dog needs depends on its weight. In simple words, a dog needs an ounce of water per pound of body weight.
Remember keeping your dog happy will make him easier to work with.
Work together
If you live with your family then make sure that everyone is consistent with the training and takes part in it. Make sure to sit with your family members and talk to them about how you want the dog to be trained.
This will make sure everyone is on the same page and the dog is not confused.
Hire a professional
There are many professional dog trainers out there who can help your dog learn in a fast manner. While these trainers charge for their services, it is a good idea to take their help since they know the job well and can work with all kind of dogs.
However, make sure to pick a trainer who is known to work well with dogs and can provide you with good results within a short span of time. Most trainers will take about 2-3 months to fully train a dog, but it may take longer, especially if you already have an adult dog.
Plus, many trainers do not even work with adult dogs so make sure to get the training as soon as possible. Puppies are in fact easier to train than adult dogs.
Moreover, be clear about all you want the trainer to teach your dog. Some will only teach him to behave (go out to pee etc.) while some can even teach your dog to do certain stunts (jump etc.). Being clear about your expectations will help you avoid issues in the future.
Positive reinforcement
Nothing helps train your dog better than a positive reinforcement, so make sure you pack up on your Scooby snacks to feed your dog when it’s a good boy. However, be careful about what you feed your dog as snacks. They might love pancakes, for example, but make sure to know if pancakes are healthy for your dog or not before you feed them any.
This would help motivate your dog stick to a specific pattern since they are smart animals and can form a link between treats and behavior.
Set boundaries
People oftentimes make a mistake of giving their dogs too much freedom around their house which can lead to them destroying and chewing off household things.
In order to avoid such a situation, make sure the rooms are locked and boundaries are set. You should be clear to your dog about what he can do and what he cannot do.
Training your dog can be tough and takes time so make sure to be patient and work around it.
