Cool read on this Veteran’s Day

By on November 11, 2018

Yes, Veteran’s Day is today (it’s observed on Monday, Nov. 12), and though most of the animal/military stories we’ve told here are contemporary, animals and war go way back.

Today, we write about veterans who get emotional support from companion animals. Service and emotional support animals help vets and others with medical conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder. But in The Great War, or World War I, animals were much more directly involved.

There’s a very cool story on Omaha.com today that details dogs, horses, mules, carrier pigeons, even a baboon that took part in the war effort for the U.S. and others. Take a peek here.

Thanks to the veterans and their families for services provided then and now.
