New FDA documents: Phase out antibiotics in animals
Recently published documents from the Food and Drug Administration detail a plan to stop using antibiotics on animals unless there is a risk of disease. The process will take place over the next three years and is (surprisingly) a widely agreed upon topic of debate in Washington.
More and more people have been concerned with the use of antibiotics in animals that eventually end up at our meat counter, dairy aisle and other places. The plan to phase out the use of antibiotics unless the threat of a disease among animals is a popular one with consumers, too. The food supply will generally be free of animal products that have been exposed to antibiotics, which has been the wish of many consumers for some time. Going forward, the use of antibiotics in animals will have to be overseen by a licensed veterinarian.
