New ordinance would require muzzles for dogs in public places
Omaha has breed-specific legislation (BSL) on the books already. It has both supporters and detractors. Proponents of BSL say that the dogs that can cause the most damage in an attack should be protected against. Opponents will say that all dogs have mouths and teeth and can bite. Regardless of your side, it’s unequivocally true that attacks happen in the absence of training and/or the presence of certain dangerous conditions. Please train your animals and keep the people and animals around them safe.
Bellevue is proposing BSL that borrows from laws on the books in Omaha. A public hearing about the legislation is scheduled for April 20, 2021. It’s important to note that the proposed legislation allows for muzzle exemptions and the BSL targets “bully breeds”.
