Nebraska Humane Society update…

By on June 20, 2024

The Nebraska Humane Society has resumed some dog adoptions after a respiratory infection, likely caused by pneumovirus, halted adoptions on June 9th. The shelter is now offering a “pick their price” program for dogs over 40 pounds to help get adoptions moving again. Adoptions for cats and other animals had already resumed on Saturday. The pneumovirus, an aggressive form of kennel cough, primarily affects dogs and poses minimal risk to humans or cats. The shelter initially suspected the infection was a case of the highly contagious Strep zooepidemicus, but further tests indicated it was pneumovirus instead.
