Choices Galore at the Nebraska Humane Society!

By on October 30, 2013

The Nebraska Humane Society isn’t your father’s rescue organization anymore.

It used to be the “dogcatcher” who would find dogs and cats and display them for you to adopt. Now, the NHS offers so many more options.

Want a guinea pig? Usually the NHS has 2-4 in cages on the east side of the building. How about a horse? You bet.  There’s a lot more to the Nebraska Humane Society than there used to be- even snakes. Yipes.

Mice? Rats? Guinea pigs? “Other” types of animals? Yes, yes and yes. Click here for our “Other Pets” page where you can learn about non-traditional pets- many of which you’ll find at the Nebraska Humane Society.  You can search for available dogs, cats, horses, and more on the Society’s Web site, but their “inventory” changes minute-by-minute, so it’s best to head down to their campus on 89th and Fort in Omaha.

The Humane Society is committed to saving, rescuing, and adopting out all kinds of critters, so if you want an animal- any kind of animal- the Nebraska Humane Society should be your first stop.

One of our biggest missions here at Pets In Omaha is to benefit the Society and others like it to improve the pet community and adoption rates, so always keep them on the top of your mind.

The Society held an event called “Adopt-a-palooza” in 2013 in which over 200 animals found homes in one weekend. There are hoards of dogs and cats available at decreased prices when events like this happen, so if you have an inkling, get yourself down there and get a forever pet. These events take place quite often, so pay attention and come back to Pets In Omaha for more info as we’ll highlight events as they happen.

To see pets the Humane Society is promoting for adoption, check out their Facebook page as they (almost daily) highlight a certain animal or two that has been looking for a home for too long. You can also check our Facebook page and Twitter feed (@PetsInOmaha) as we highlight area rescues and shelters with adoptable pets.

Get down to the Nebraska Humane Society today to find that special dog, cat, mouse, pig or anything else you’ve been itching to find!
