Update: Texas shelter working its way back after fire
In March, we told you about the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, the shelter that caught fire and experienced great loss. Read the original story here.
We recently got an update from the shelter and are glad to pass it along. If you haven’t already, please share and help if you can. The great loss the shelter, its animals, and its people are still reeling from the tragic event.

74 Dogs Die in Tragic Fire at HSSET
On March 15, 2016, the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, Texas, caught fire. The fire was caused by an undetermined electrical failure, possibly an electrical outlet located in the laundry room. 74 dogs died, though all other animals made it out alive. Our survivors are all in foster care or receiving treatment at the vet clinic as the shelter awaits its verdict.
The HSSETX Shelter has been serving the Southeast Texas community for over 45 years, providing temporary shelter, love and care to 150 to 200 animals every day. Now, the ceilings are caved in, the walls are covered in ash, and ghosts walk the hallways.
We have started a GoFundMe campaign for rebuilding the HSSET.
Once we know the extent of the damages to the shelter we will explore our options.
