Can you help find this bonded pair of Danes a home?

During the first day of Pets in Omaha’s Pick-a-Pooch Adoption Days at Ralston Arena (July 15, 2017), one could meet at least one adoptable animal from 28 different rescue and shelter groups. About 100 dogs were in attendance Saturday and more will be there tomorrow, Sunday, July 16.

And of the stories we heard about the dogs, one stood out as a tale we could help write a happy ending to. Big Dogs Huge Paws is a regional rescue with great presence in Omaha and the surrounding area. It specializes in bigger breeds (mastiffs, great danes) and four dogs were hanging out with volunteers. Two of the four, Bella and Gracie, are a bonded pair, which means they must be adopted together. And though most aren’t looking for a pair to rescue, it would be hard to ignore these two lasses.

Bella and Gracie have been in rescue for two months, which is a relatively short time. What’s going to be difficult, said Alicia of the rescue, is not only the fact that they are a bonded pair which must stay together, but that they are “seniors.” Senior could mean different things when speaking of different breeds, and in the case of these two Danes, seven and nine years old, senior means very much into the later years. Danes live to be eight or ten years old, sometimes a little less or a little more. Sadly, never too much more.

And as they are growing old together, the pair is looking for a final place to call home.

Gracie is a nine-year-old Fawnequin Great Dane with cropped ears. Though she’s nine, she prances around like a happy giraffe (she even looks like one!) She is a “sweet old lady” who loves her sis, Bella. The two play and “romp on occasion” according to the rescue’s website. Bella is a 7-year-old Harlequin Dane with natural ears and a few lumps and bumps that behold her age. Don’t let that fool you, for this sweet girl loves to play and run around and is still quite active for her age. Bella is house trained and is good with other dogs.
