Circle of Stars Academy Hosts Donation Drive for NHS

By on July 28, 2016

The Circle of Stars Academy is a football camp, but participants learn more than physical fitness, basic football skills, and how to prepare themselves for a future in athletics. The program is designed to promote growth and development of young men, many of whom are from the inner city and at-risk, giving them an opportunity to improve themselves as athletes and people. Campers learn that through teamwork, learning to make good decisions, emphasizing personal values, and encouraging self-determination, they can succeed as productive teammates and members of society.

Eric T. Anderson runs the summer program in Omaha and surrounding communities. “The kids who are involved in my program are 7th and 8th grade young men. One of the conditions of being in my program is being involved with community service projects. We feel that it is very important for these young men know the importance of giving back,” he says.

This summer, the Academy is participating in a donation drive for the Nebraska Humane Society. Members of the community can help the NHS and the Academy in its mission by bringing donations to the PetSmart at 72nd and Sorenson Parkway in Omaha between noon and 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

Among the things the Academy is collecting for the shelter are:

  • towels
  • blankets
  • cat toys
  • cat and dog food
  • surgical gloves and masks
  • chew bones and chewable toys for dogs

Giving to the Nebraska Humane Society is always great, but when one can do so through a donation drive that teaches young men the value of giving back, all the better. Please consider taking part in the donation drive this Sunday and make a difference in the lives of kids and animals in our community.
