Meet Groot, Nebraska Humane Society’s Superhero Cat

By on May 19, 2018

On Monday, May 14, animal control from the Nebraska Humane Society evacuated 46 cats and kittens from a “filthy, overcrowded house.” Many cats were found too late- including a handful in a Rubbermaid tote- “but one was fighting to be heard,” says the shelter’s latest newsletter. “We named him ‘Groot’, this tiny super hero with a huge will to survive.”

All of the felines taken from the house needed flea and parasite treatments, ear cleaning, spaying and neutering, and basic care. “We are working to make life much better for these deserving animals.”

This is just one tragic and harrowing tale that the Nebraska Humane Society can tell. Unfortunately, things like this aren’t uncommon. But fortunately for the animals, there’s the Nebraska Humane Society which adopts out over 10,000 displaces animals each year.

More good news- this week is the annual Omaha Gives! campaign, a giant fundraiser that puts thousands of dollars in the animal-related charities like NHS that help the animals we love. If you donate to the animals between now and May 23 during Omaha Gives!, a generous donor will match all contributions up to $35,000! Plus if the shelter gets 1,500 individual donors, NHS can win an Omaha Gives! top participation prize which will provide bonus bucks to Nebraska’s largest shelter!

Help NHS multiply your gift and help animals like Groot get the chance they deserve. Click here to find out how to help.

Keep in Mind:

Only online donations through Omaha Gives count.
If you’ve already scheduled your donation, thank tyu! You’ll go into the count to help NHS earn $35,000.
You don’t have to live in Omaha to donate.
The more donations the merrier! But, if you donate to NHS more than once during Omaha Gives, only your FIRST donation will count towards the donor count.
